Theatre Royal Hotel
Theatre Royal Hotel is located in Kumara which is on the West Coast Wilderness Cycle Trail.
Built in 1876, at the beginning of the Kumara gold rush, the Hotel was the meeting and entertaining place for the miners who arrived in Kumara from all around the world in hope of finding gold.
The first owners were Annie and Otto Anderson. Otto was from Scandinavia and Annie from Germany. Prior to the first church being built in the township of Kumara the confirmations were held in the Hotel.
A thirty metre theatre addition was added to the Hotel and travelling shows would come from England and America to perform in Kumara. The famous New Zealand poet, Thomas Bracken, was a popular guest performer. Richard John Seddon was often known to take to the stage and sing.
The Theatre Royal Hotel features six stunningly themed Hotel rooms all with private ensuites.
There are also authentic cottages on Seddon Street.
McEnaneys Cottage features four bedrooms with ensuites and a communal kitchen and lounge.
The newly restored Old Bank of New Zealand features two Victorian style suites.
The Seddon Suite has one bedroom with ensuite.
The Queen Victoria Suite has two bedrooms, two ensuites and sleeps up to five guests.
The Hotel also offers newly built luxury Miners Cottages, keeping with the stunning features the property has to offer.
Guest can dine amidst antiques, fresh flowers, silverware, diming lights, soft lamps, candles, historic art works and memorabilia and around a warm stone fireplace in the winter months.
A separate dining room can be used for private dinner parties, house guests, breakfasts and meetings along with small conferences and weddings.
The Theatre Royal Hotel provides breakfast, packed lunches, evening dinning, a lockable bike shed and a private lounge for their guests.
Theatre Royal Hotel has won a number of awards. Excellence for Hospitality in 2015 and received a Certificate of Excellence from Trip Advisor in 2015. The Hotel has also won awards for best renovated Hotel and best country Hotel. Lonely Planet voted the Hotel in the top ten country hotels for 2015.
