Once changed, a short climb is required to enter the enormous Nile River Cave System where you meander through a calcitic paradise of stalactites and stalagmites in the upper dry levels of the cave.
Down in the lower active levels of the Cave, you meet up with a slow moving underground river on which you float in your tube using only the natural light of a simply awe inspiring display of glow worms for navigation.

Rainforest Train

A short interpretative train ride in open carriages through primeval rain forest.
Completed in December 2002, The Nile River Rainforest Train recreated a bygone era where bush trams once prevailed. The Train provides visitors with a fantastic way to experience the spectacular landscapes of the Nile River Canyon in the South Island’s Paparoa National Park.
Depart from the festival station at the entry to the water sculptured limestone Nile River Canyon. Enjoy the landscape and interpret the environment as the train meanders its way through the rainforest beside the Nile River.
Pass through many of the film sites for the BBC’s “The Lost World” production and imagine the pioneers at work in the canyon.
Arrive at “Softrock Station”, nestled beneath the towering limestone buffs. Take a short walk from the station through the rainforest to the Nile River Suspension Bridge before your return journey to the festival station.

Adventure Caving

A full-on expedition style adventure.
An adventure truly not for the faint hearted. As the name states, Adventure Caving is full on expedition style caving. Following practice, you begin your mini expedition with a 130 ft abseil down Hi Hi Tomo. Down under, a scramble over boulders in dry rift passages take you to the active waterways of Te Tahi Cave.
Wire ladders are used to climb rifts and waterfalls. Stealth and commitment is required to climb, chimney, bridge gaps and crawl through amazing passages.
Active waterways replace the dry sporty passages with cascades, waterfalls, and squeezes. It is great fun and a physical challenge negotiating these narrow water passages, but essential to return to the larger well decorated dry caverns.
Along the way you will have a snack in the white room stacked with superb formation. You will come face to face with fossils and develop an understanding of what exploratory caving is all about.

Information
•Must have a good level of fitness
•Full mental commitment required
•Allow 5 hours return from our Charleston Base
•Suitable for 16 years and over
•Swimwear and a towel required
•We photograph your trip with free downloads
